"Gates of Fire", Another Real Story From Iraq

Another installment from Michael Yon’s experience in Iraq. To see what combat operations in Mosul are like, from first hand experience, read his newest post “Gates of Fire”.

We constantly hear about soldiers abusing terrorists, how strong the insurgency is, and how much we need to get out of Iraq. This journalist goes out with units on raids and other missions. In this story, he very nearly broke the law as he found himself in a position where he became a combatant. As before, its not pretty, but it is a very good read. It is a long piece, so give yourself about half an hour.

Wounded, LTC Erik Kurilla continues shooting at insurgents inside a shop just before Michael decides to pick up a weapon.
