NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - Mayor John DeStefano Jr. is backing a plan to provide identification cards to illegal immigrants. The mayor, a Democratic hopeful for governor in 2006, said a legitimate form of ID would allow illegal immigrants to open bank accounts, prove their identity to police and access social services.

More vote pandering. I think I am worried about the logic from the part about “access to social programs”.
