White House Espionage and Leaks to Israel
WASHINGTON (AP) - The FBI is investigating whether a former Marine took classified information from the White House when he worked in the vice president's office and passed it to Filipino officials, U.S. government officials say.
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - A top Pentagon analyst said he never meant to harm the United States when he leaked secret information to Israeli embassy officials and members of a pro-Israel lobbying group. Lawrence A. Franklin, 58, a policy analyst whose expertise included Iran and Iraq […] said he leaked the classified information because he was frustrated with a U.S. government policy, which he did not specify.
Two issues these stories make me think about:
A.) This shows the inherent danger we face in this nation of melting pot immigration and citizenship. It is an interesting dilemma as our diversity is a strength, but obviously can lead to divided loyalties at times.
B.) How much hard time and/or penalties will these two suffer versus any one of our elected officials that breach national security in much worse ways?
